NYC Chapter 1

You know what it's like to lose something. The wallet dance at the café when you want to pay for that cappuccino and a croissant (toasted pls) or even the pocket shake when you're looking for your keys at the front door. But hopefully, you find it in THAT pocket or THAT bag. You get it.

That's what moving to a new city is all about. Losing things. But, finding yourself in the process right? It's all worth it when you figure out which stop to get off at, which subway exit to take, what coffee to order, learning that sarcasm/self-deprecation is not to be thrown around, how much to tip (standard is 20%) and finding the best egg sandwich in the city.

It's one part daily problem solving, one part managing that anxiety, a dash of magic and a twist of WTF WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF.

So, here are some things that I'm grateful for in NYC:

Negroni's
A mighty punch to the face while being the perfect toasty warmth for your insides. But also bitter to counteract any deep bitterness held within you.

Family & Friends
It's been a little bit tough going from the security of friends and family in Sydney, where I surrounded myself with good people and cut out my niches. But, I know that they're just a short message away and so am I. The natural urge to constantly check your phone and see what everyone's up to while you're figuring our your own friend situation is okay - it's just a matter of knowing when to stop. After having lived overseas for a year without mobile data before, my advice to future you, me, anyone: Get off the damn phone, you're on it too much.

Job
It was definitely a difficult decision to leave my last job (it was a pretty sweet deal). In saying that, I am the kind of person that can't sit still and always needs to be doing something. Thankfully, I started working at Dame Products less than 48 hours after arriving. It's this great startup (now err-ing on the side of company) founded by two brilliant ladies that's closing the pleasure gap....one vagina at a time.  Mega supportive and a cool office - there's sometimes even a husky named Kaiulani that chills out.

Home
The search for a great home through craiglist, gypsy housing etc came to fruition. I'll be living in this meta loftception with a couple of pretty swell people. Moving houses, let alone countries, is destabilising for us humans. So, it's nice to know that structure and routine are just a short while away. Oh and my actual home sometimes: Sydney.

And then I lost my wallet.

I've been after some groovy vibes to keep my toasty during this cold weather and to keep the vibes strong. Here's what I've been listening to at work while I write tweets or walking to work:
